Review of Lili Chin Doggie Language Book

In This Post:

Lili Chin is a well known illustrator who has been designing various dog training related infographics for years now. She released her first book, Doggie Language, at the end of 2020 and I recently got my hands on it. If you are not interested in reading my whole review, you can stop right here, my one sentence tldr (too long, didn’t read) is: I rate it 5 out of 5 stars, it is appropriate for kids, teens, and adults, and is an important read for anyone who lives or works with dogs.

Overall this book was simple and effective. It is very approachable for all ages and abilities and the illustrations are appealing. It’s probably a 20 minute read, but I also think it is a book you could come back to time and time again. It fills a gap in the market, there really isn’t another in-depth dog body language book with illustrations to accompany it in publication right now.

I would almost call this book a dictionary. It is broken into sections based on the body parts and then it points out an element of dog body language, then tells you what it looks like, then shows you what it looks like through the illustrations.

For what it is this book is brilliant. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. However, I wish that there was a little more emphasis given on why understanding dog body language is important, and also helped guide owners what to do when seeing signs of stress, discomfort, or aggression. It helps you identify that there is a problem, but it does not provide any solutions to help solve the problem.

Overall 5 out of 5 stars, an excellent, and important book!
