Turkey and Pumpkin Training Treats

One great way for your dog to safely join in on the festivities is to prepare them their own Thanksgiving themed dog treats. I have tried out some recipes that feature traditional Thanksgiving ingredients. Here I share with you my favorite training treat recipe that utilizes those traditional Thanksgiving ingredients. You could use leftovers to make these dog treats, or get the festivities started early for your dog and run to the store ahead.  I like these treats because they are easy to make, it takes less time to make them than going to the pet store, they can be completed quickly and most importantly, they are dog approved! The ingredients used are all considered dog safe, but, if your dog has allergies or you are worried it is, of course, a good idea to check with your vet first.

Ingredients

12 oz. cup cooked, plain, white meat turkey

1/4 cup water

3/4 cup pumpkin

4oz cheese

2 egg

1 cups tapioca flour*

(The tapioca flour gives these treats the soft, squishy texture. They will work with any other flour you would like to use but will end up as crumbly, biscuit type treats.)

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix all ingredients in a food processor
  3. Pour mixture into a mold like the pyramid pan or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Cook in the oven 12 minutes
  5. Let cool, then remove from mold OR cut with pizza cutter into bite-sized pieces

Just for fun: The recipe card above features Leash & Learn’s original logo and colors. I loved this design so much, that I sometimes leave old graphics as they are, kind of like a fun Easter egg! I could have changed this so that it featured the updated logo and color pallet, but, seeing this one here makes me smile. And, I like to smile. Hopefully it makes you smile too!
